Wall Foundation Preparation - Site excavation and grading : properly prepared as detailed on the plans. - The excavated area inspection : any soft areas shall be excavated and replace with suitable compacted backfill material. - Proof rolling with vibratory compaction or damper. - Step levels of concrete foundation are needed if the excavated profile forms a slope 2. Fill Material Placing and Compaction - The fill should be compacted to at least 95% of the maximum density. - The geogrid reinforcement shall be pulled out and anchored prior to placing of backfill material. - The rolling should not be done directly over the geogrid, and at least 150 mm blanket layer should be laid over geogrid before rolling. - Any folding and movement of the geogrid shall be avoided during placing and compacting the backfill material. - The placement and compaction of backfill material should proceed from wall face side. - The construction equipment should not be allowed to change direction suddenly. 3. Drainage System a. Drainage system in backfill part - Underdrain pipe at the bottom of the geogrid reinforced wall - Geotextile drain + Gravel at the excavated back slope - Horizontal drainage with geotextile or gravel b. Surface drainage system - Prefabricated or concrete ditch on the top or bottom-front of geogrid reinforced wall 4..Quality Control of Backfill All backfill material used in the reinforced Sieve Size Percent Passing zone shall be reasonbly free from organic 20 mm 100 or other deleterious material and shall 4.75 mm 100 - 20 conform to the limits(AASHTO, 1990) 0.425 mm 0 - 60 presented as follow. 0.075 mm 0 - 15 Plasticity Index(PI) ≤ 6.0
